MILLETT FARM An Invitation to the Farm AN INVITATION TO THE WOMEN'S ART COLONY/FARM from KATE MILLETT MILLETT FARM 20 OLD OVERLOOK ROAD POUGHKEEPSIE, NY 12603 Tel: 845-473-9267 This is an invitation to enjoy a residency for the summer at the Women's Art Colony Farm in Poughkeepsie, New York. An invitation extended to women writers, visual artists of all kinds and musicians all around the world. Over the twenty years of our existence several hundred women have spent summer or spring or fall at the farm, painting or writing, living in nature and community with other women. We have no outside funding. We share expenses and work together to keep the place looking good. The farm is about the work you bring to the place. The painting and prose you do here, the place itself, its beauty and shelter, a piece of the world that is ours to enjoy; wildflowers, a pond to swim in, fields to dream in, woods to ramble. C O M M U N I T Y We are also the experience of living with women in freedom, in friendship, in discussion, the comradeship in nature and at the dinner table, good talk over wine, the sun on our flesh by the pond; everywhere around us flowers and woods, a world we have invented here, are perfecting and enjoying, creating a new way to live. The farm is a chance to stretch our imagination on paper and canvas, risking within the security and support we have brought into being here. It takes a determination to use the time well. We give preference to artists who can stay from four to six weeks, but women do come for shorter periods as well. Our enjoyment of the place is built on the many years of pioneer effort by the women who have come over the past twenty years. Time here is precious time; we are few in number and the places offered few and carefully chosen. M A S T E R  C L A S S E S  I N  W R I T I N G For one week in July there will be a master class in writing. The class will be a solid week of intensive study with Kate. Applicants for master classes must submit work they will stand by for admission which is at least ten pages in length. C H R I S T M A S    2 0 0 9 Kate Millett   welcomes you back to the home of the most beautiful hand-sheared Christmas trees in Dutchess County We have DOUGLAS FIRS, COLORADO BLUE SPRUCES and NORWAY SPRUCES Our trees have been lovingly sheared by women artists for over twenty years COME JOIN US IN THE FIELDS BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY CUT YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS TREE SHARE SOME HOT CIDER and some HOLIDAY CHEER WITH US (We provide hand saws and baling twine) Directions to Millett Farm at 20 Old Overlook Road Poughkeepsie, New York 12603 We are conveniently located about two hours north of New York City -- about 5 minutes from the Poughkeepsie exits off the Taconic Parkway From Route 44 -- turn at the traffic light at the Purple Parlor Car Wash at the corner of Route 44 and DeGarmo Road; go along DeGarmo Road up the hill to the first traffic light at Lewis Country Farms; turn left and go 2 miles along Overlook Road until you see the overhead power lines; and turn right onto Old Overlook Road.  Our field is on the left just before you get to Cramer Road. From Route 55 -- turn at the traffic light at the Mobil Station at the corner of Route 55 and Freedom Plains Road; go about 100 yards and bear to the left onto Cramer Road; go about 2 miles along Cramer Road and turn left at Old Overlook Road.  Our field is just ahead on the right. Coming from the South (NYC) on the Taconic Parkway -- take the Poughkeepsie exit for Route 55 West: follow Route 55 through 4 traffic lights and continue on as from Route 55 above.
